Bluffmejl?

Scam email? How to know if you can ignore it

"Your security service has expired." "Unpaid invoice — final reminder." "Your parcel is waiting, pay the fee." They're built to feel urgent — and that urgency is the first tell. Here's how to judge in a minute, and what to do if something already went wrong.

The tells — the more of them, the surer the scam

If it's a scam: do this

  1. Don't click, don't reply. Even a "stop emailing me" confirms your address is live and invites more.
  2. Mark as spam and delete. It trains your mail client and protects others.
  3. Tell the impersonated party if the mail pretends to be your bank or a company — forward it to their real customer service.

Fake invoice to you or your business? Dispute it in writing

Never pay an invoice for something you didn't order — but don't ignore it silently either, in case it goes to debt collection. Dispute it in writing, once:

Hello, I dispute invoice [number] dated [date] in its entirety. No order has been placed and no agreement exists between us. Any continued collection attempts will be disputed with the collection agency and the enforcement authority as well, and the matter has been reported to the police. [Name]

If the claim is still sent to the enforcement authority (Kronofogden): dispute it there too, free of charge — the company then has to go to court, which scam operations never do.

Unsure about an email?

Forward it exactly as it is to help@plendo.com — we'll tell you whether it's a scam and what to do. Free, and you don't even need to ask a question.
