Steg 1: Samla underlaget

The store refuses to refund you — how to get your money back

You're owed money but the company refuses, goes silent, or offers store credit you never asked for. Here's the path forward, in the right order. Most cases resolve at step 2. (This guide covers Swedish/EU consumer law.)

Where you stand

Step 1: Gather the paper trail

Receipt or order confirmation, dates, amounts, and the email history. If everything happened by phone, summarize the call in an email to the company ("as we discussed by phone today...") — now it's in writing.

Step 2: Send a written demand

A short, factual email with a concrete amount and a concrete deadline (14 days). This resolves most cases — companies know what a dispute board costs them in time and reputation. Template:

Hello, On [date] I purchased [product/service] for [amount] (order no. [nr]). [One sentence on what happened: "I withdrew from the purchase on X" / "The product has the following defect: X" / "The item was never delivered".] Under [the 14-day withdrawal right / consumer sales law] I am entitled to a refund. I therefore request [amount] to [account / the card used] no later than [date, 14 days out]. If I have not received the money by then, I will take the matter to the national dispute board (ARN) without further reminder. Kind regards, [Name]

Step 3: Paid by card or invoice?

Then you have a shortcut. Card payment: request a chargeback through your bank. Invoice or installments through a credit provider (Klarna etc.): under consumer credit law you can direct the same claim at the credit provider as at the store — and they often move faster.

Step 4: ARN — free and effective

Deadline passed? File with Allmänna reklamationsnämnden (arn.se), Sweden's national consumer dispute board. It's free, done online, and reputable companies almost always comply — those that don't end up on a public blacklist. Requirements: the company has refused (or stayed silent for 30 days) and the amount exceeds ARN's threshold for the category (usually 500–2,000 kr).

Step 5: The enforcement authority

Alternative or next step: apply for an order to pay at Kronofogden (the Swedish Enforcement Authority, 300 kr — added to your claim). If the company disputes it, the case can go to court — but the mere step is often enough, because refusing now costs them real money.
